Mayu Wakisaka Performing at TGE,in UK, After Having a Blast at SXSW2014

Friday, May 2, 2014

A Japanese songstress, Mayu Wakisaka, has successfully finished her first SXSW show in Austin, US, and now is ready to head to Europe for The Great Escape, an annually held music showcase in Brighton, UK.

While many acts from Japan show strong influence from its own Japanese culture, Mayu’s music is totally western, and her lyric is all in well-written, heart-warming English. According to some press in Japan, her folk and jazz oriented music style has been compared to that of Norah Jones or Sheryl Crow.

At SXSW, from the audience’s reaction, it was obvious to see that her lyric directly connected with audience, and event though there were hundreds of other acts to follow up, some people followed her at five shows through the festival.

Mayu has just released her new album in Japan, titled “Halfway to You”, on April 16th. After her previous sold out EPs, this is her first Japanese distribution.

Now that she’s all fueled up with SXSW experience and her new album release, she ready to rock Europe at The Great Escape. This will be her first EU show ever.

“As I’ve looked at the past line-ups at The Great Escape seems like where most upcoming acts from UK come from. I’m definitely excited to be playing among them, and hope UK will spread the word around the world!”, says Mayu.

Her official showcase will be at Queen’s Hotel at 2PM on May 10th and at St Mary’s Church at 7PM on May 10th. There will be more casual shows to check her out. Please visit her website for more details!
